Sprout Pocket is in development and not on the App Store yet. This page describes how the app handles information today, in plain terms. We’ll update it as the app changes, and before any public release.

Who has an account

Only parents sign in. Parent sign-in is handled by Clerk.

Children don’t have accounts. A child profile is a name and a symbol (leaf, sun, moon, star, paw or bird). There are no photos, and we don’t ask for a child’s age, email or other contact details.

What Sprout Pocket stores

The family’s information is stored on Convex, the backend service the app runs on:

• Your family’s name and the parents who belong to it.
• Each child profile’s name and symbol.
• Paired devices: the device name, whether it’s used by a parent, a child or shared, and when it was last used.
• The links you share: the address, and the title, thumbnail link, creator and description that come with the page or video, plus which child’s library and collection they’re in.
• Requests: what a child types into “Ask your parent,” and requests for Parent Mode, with whether they were approved.
• A basic log of product events, such as an item being shared or opened, used to count how the app is used. Each record holds internal IDs (for example, which family, child and item) and a time, not names or messages.

Child devices keep a device credential in the iPad’s Keychain so they can load only their assigned child’s library. It isn’t an account and can’t be used to manage the family.

What it doesn’t do

• It doesn’t store or host videos, images or other media files.
• It isn’t a browser. It opens only the pages and videos a parent added.
• The app doesn’t show ads.

Other services involved

• YouTube. Videos play in YouTube’s player inside the app, so YouTube receives the request for that video.
• Websites you approve. They load directly from the site that publishes them, which receives the visit like any other.
• Clerk and Convex. They handle parent sign-in and family data, as described above.

Removing information

You can remove an item from a child’s library at any time, from your phone. Removing a child from your family removes their library and disconnects their devices.

This website

sproutpocket.com is a static page. The site itself doesn’t set cookies, ask you to sign in or run analytics scripts. Our hosting provider may keep standard request logs.
